Last week there was speculation that new iPods could be introduced this week. In fact a report from yesterday revealed that this was likely given that shipping times for the iPod lineup had started to slip, but when exactly can we expect the new iPods? According to the folks at 9to5Mac, they have heard that the day could be today, the 15th of July.
Apart from “confirming” today’s launch, they have also revealed some additional details about the refresh. Now for the most part, the iPod nano and iPod shuffle will remain exactly the same internally. The only difference is that they will be given a new coat of paint in the form of new blue, pink, and gold finishes.
However the iPod touch on the other hand will be given a hardware upgrade. Last we heard, it will be getting a new chipset in the form of a 64-bit processor. This will allow the device to better handle apps such as games, and will allow it to be upgraded in the future in terms of iOS updates.
It is also rumored to be getting an upgrade in the camera department, from a 5MP camera to an 8MP camera. It will also feature the “M” chip for fitness purposes, and will also come preloaded with iOS 8.4 which comes with Apple Music. Apple is also rumored to introduce a new 128GB model priced at $399, while a 64GB model will also be introduced at $199. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but we guess we won’t have to wait too long to find out if the rumors are true.
