However according to a report from iGen.fr (via 9to5Mac), it seems that it could be more than just a new coat of paint. In fact according to the publication, Apple is expected to introduce a new 64-bit SoC to the iPod touch. Given that it has been a few years since it was updated and with Apple transitioning to 64-bit chipsets on their iOS devices, we suppose this was inevitable.
However apart from the upgrade of the chipset, it is unclear as to what other changes Apple could be making to the music player. Could there be more RAM? A better camera? We suppose we will find out next week on the 14th of July, which is apparently when Apple will be unveiling the iPod refreshes.
That being said it seems that the iPod touch will be the only iPod gaining a significant upgrade. The iPod nano and shuffle are only expected to receive color changes, but then again they were fine the way they were before, so we guess an upgrade in hardware might not be necessary. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but check back with us next week for the details.
