In just a couple of months Apple will be launching new products, first the new iPhones will come in September followed by the new iPads in October. There’s already a lot of speculation about Apple shaking up its tablet lineup this year with some even saying that it will skip an update for the iPad Air 2 to focus the spotlight on an all new iPad Pro. While that remains to be seen there’s a new report from the Far East which claims that iPad mini 4 is more or less going to be like a mini iPad Air 2 because it’s going to feature the same specifications.
There’s already speculation that iPad mini 4 might be the last “mini” branded tablet that Apple releases, because if the iPad Pro arrives the 9.7 inch iPad Air would effectively become the mini variant.
Macotakara reports that iPad mini 4 is basically going to be an iPad Air with a smaller display since it’s going to feature the same A8 series processor, 8 megapixel iSight rear camera and 802.11ac Wi-Fi.
This would also mean that the tablet’s thickness would come down from 7.5mm to 6.1mm, also in line with the iPad Air 2. It may also get the tablet’s laminated display with anti-reflective coating.
The report doesn’t mention speculation that a new iPad Air might not be launched this year, instead it says that Apple will keep dimensions and design of the tablet constant and launch a refreshed model which features the A9 processor.
