It has been rumored multiple times in the past that Huawei could be working with Google on creating their own Nexus handset, and now thanks to a report from The Information (subscription required; via The Verge), it seems that they too have “confirmed” that the handset is in the works.
Like we said this isn’t the first time we have heard this rumor but given that The Information has been pretty accurate with their leaks and rumors, there might be a shred of truth of their claims. Assuming the rumors have been true, it will no doubt help Huawei catapult into the mainstream market where previously the company was mostly viewed as a budget handset manufacturer.
However this partnership won’t be benefitting just Huawei. The Information reports that Huawei could potentially help bring Google’s mobile app store to China. As it stands, Google’s services have been banned by China, so Android devices sold in the country typically rely on other app stores like those provided by Baidu.
Google is also expected to help Huawei market their other devices, such as their wearables, stateside where like we said, Huawei’s brand isn’t as mainstream compared to the likes of Samsung, LG, HTC, and so on. Apart from Huawei, there have also been rumors to suggest that LG could be making the second Nexus device as well.
