Unsurprisingly Fiat Chrysler aren’t too happy with the hackers disclosing the information in a statement that reads, “Under no circumstances does FCA condone or believe it’s appropriate to disclose ‘how-to information’ that would potentially encourage, or help enable hackers to gain unauthorized and unlawful access to vehicle systems.”
That being said, the company has since released a software patch that they claim will fix the flaw. However customers will have to head on over to a dealership or download the update onto a USB stick in order to get their cars updated and patched. This is rather disturbing since rushed and shoddy software experiences are bad enough, imagine if that were to happen to cars in the future as well.
Of course as dangerous as this is, the potential behind internet-connected vehicles is huge, so as long as there is some kind of system in place to ensure that this won’t happen, we suppose we’re on board with the idea. In the meantime how do you guys feel about this?
