It looks like we are starting to achieve new levels of integration where app and hardware are concerned, and this can be best seen in the latest partnership that will involve both Meerkat and GoPro. At VidCon, a conference that caters for creators of online content, Meerkat claimed that they will eventually enable GoPro 3 and GoPro 4 owners to livestream via its iOS app. It must also be noted that the Meerkat app itself can also be found on the Android platform, although no certain indication was given of when such a feature will be made available.
I would like to think that the folks over at Meerkat happen to be going up against Twitter’s Periscope in order to establish a commanding presence in the live streaming market. After all, both of these apps have already surpassed the 1 million download mark some time go, and it has made life easier for folks to make use of live streaming apps – no doubt assisted by politicians who jumped aboard, too. Case in point, former Secretary of State Hilary Clinton did launch her 2016 presidential bid by Periscoping one of her speeches.
What do you think of this particular partnership, and do you see it yielding long term dividends?
