self destruct emailEver sent out an email, only for you to regret later? That would seem to be more likely whenever you have had a wee bit too much to drink, and in a flash of inspiration (where in hindsight, it is really stupidity), your emotions for your ex gets all riled up, and you fire an email to him or her, pouring out your heart on how he or she is the best – and will continue to be, no matter who you see after this. Of course, the alcohol had also made you forget what caused your split in the first place. Well, if you have raised yourself up from your drunken stupor, fret not – should you have sent that email via Gmail, there is hope at the end of the tunnel.

Apparently, there is a brand new tool for Gmail which will allow you to revoke access to messages as and when you please. Known as Dmail, it happens to be a new browser extension for Google Chrome which will allow you a greater degree of control on your sent emails. For instance, you can set a specific time when the message will self-destruct, which can be anywhere from an hour to an entire week.

In fact, should there be no specific self-destruct timer attached to an email, you can still recall it at any time you please, meaning the recipient will not be able to view it. This Chrome extension was developed by the folks behind the social bookmarking service known as Delicious, and in due time, the team intends to see this feature extend itself to include the likes of documents. Looks like this complements Gmail’s Undo Send pretty well.
