Chances are if you have played games on your mobile device, there is a distinct possibility that you could have played a title belonging to Gameloft. The company is behind popular mobile games like Siegefall and Dungeon Hunter, along with comic book tie-ins like Spider-Man Unlimited.
Unfortunately it seems that all good things must come to an end. According to a report from Gamasutra, it seems that Gameloft will be shutting down its New York office. While it was initially a rumor, the company’s lead programmer Kevin Chen confirmed this in a post on Facebook which has since been deleted.
According to Chen, “As of this morning, after 15 years and many dozens of bestselling games, all production at Gameloft NYC is ceased. All development personnel, including myself, have been terminated.” Gameloft also provided a statement which wasn’t really a confirmation, but it does sound like some kind of organization reshuffle could be going on.
It reads, “Gameloft is actively managing its production organization and is refocusing on its most efficient and experienced creation centers in order to adapt to rapidly changing market conditions and to grow its revenues faster and more profitably.” That being said, Gameloft has multiple studios but the shuttering of one of its offices certainly does not bode well.
It is unclear as to why the New York offices have been shuttered, but hopefully the details will be revealed soon.
