Frog-Inspired Robot Is Both Hard And Soft

hopper-botMost of the time, we would think of robots in the vein of the Terminator – cold, hard metal that is soulless and yet unrelenting. Well, engineers have come up with something that is of the total opposite – and I am referring to this frog-like jumping robot which will boast of hard as well as soft parts, and best of all is, it has been accomplished using a 3D printer.

Running on a combination of butane and oxygen, this unique hopping robots are able to jump two and a half feet high, not to mention half a foot sideways. In addition, they are also capable of surviving for over 30 jumps without breaking. These machines can very well be the reference for engineers to come up with more robust robot designs in the future, and who knows, with the ability to jump that high, when scaled upwards, might just make such robots useful when it comes to rescue missions.

It is always nice to see how nature has inspired modern day champions of science to come up with their creations which eventually, will be able to help mankind out. Hopefully, such technology will not fall into the wrong hands and abused for personal gain or power.
