Driving at night can be dangerous, especially on poorly-lit roads where you might not be able to see people or animals crossing your path until it’s too late. However in the recent years, car companies have started to create adaptive headlights that adapts to the situation, and now Ford has answered with something of their own.
The car company has recently introduced adaptive headlights of their own, which when combined with an infrared camera can help drivers shine a light on animals or people walking in front of them. This is thanks to the inclusion of two spotlights that can move and point towards the obstacle.
This not only serves as a warning to pedestrians, but will also give the driver more time to react to the situation. According to Ford, the extra 2-3 seconds will give the drive ample time to brake or steer away. Apart from the lights adapting to animals and pedestrians, the lights can also adapt to the roads.
For example when it comes to roundabouts, the light beams can spread out wide which will point the direction the driver should be driving towards, and will also shine light at the traffic coming from the other direction, which once again serves as a warning/reminder that there is a driver on their way.
No word on when Ford’s new adaptive systems will be introduced, but the company has stated that it will be available in the “near term”. In the meantime you can check out the video above to see it in action.
