E-commerce is a very lucrative field which is why we see online companies trying to get a bigger piece of this pie, be it with Google putting buy buttons within mobile search results or Facebook building online stores for some business Pages. The world’s largest social network will soon feature online stores within business Pages, Facebook is only doing this as a test of sorts at this point in time but if the idea sticks and it deems it worthwhile the company will expand it further.
One can already shop through Facebook, there are already countless Pages selling their merchandise and groups dedicated for the express purpose of buying and selling stuff.
With this initiative though Facebook will really be able to control the shopping experience. Not only will the online store be hosted on its platform but the company is also going to manage the entire shopping experience which also includes checkout.
This will get people to shop on Facebook itself and potentially open up another revenue stream for the company that supports what it already rakes in through advertising revenue.
So far Facebook has not revealed which business Pages will be selected to host their online stores and it hasn’t shared the final layout of these stores just yet, but it may not take too long to reveal all of this.
