Nintendo announced their plans earlier this year to enter the mobile gaming scene (finally). However it wouldn’t be 100% their effort as they would be teaming up with DeNA who will be working on the backend of things, while Nintendo provides them with the IP necessary to make those games a reality.
No doubt many are curious to see what will be the result of this partnership, and more importantly if it will succeed. Naturally DeNA is optimistic about the partnership, so much so that during an interview with Pocket Gamer, the company’s CEO Shintaro Asako claimed that the partnership will change the mobile gaming scene.
According to Asako, “I think this is potentially an opportunity for us to completely change the market.” He also claims that “Nintendo has by far the best gaming IP,” while “DeNA’s expertise is definitely backend.” In fact Asako points at the Kim Kardashian game as being a perfect example of how a game with great branding and great backend will result in huge success.
We suppose to a certain extent that is true, although we’re not sure if Nintendo’s games and franchises have the same kind of notoriety that Kim Kardashian is able to command. In the meantime Nintendo and DeNA expects their first mobile title to be released by the end of 2015.
