Dashlane Password Manager Now Supports Samsung’s Fingerprint Scanning

Recently Samsung has been adding fingerprint security features to its flagship smartphones. This has opened up a lot of possibilities in terms of security, which is something that password manager Dashlane will be taking advantage of. The company has recently announced that they will be integrating Samsung’s fingerprint scanning system with their Android app.

According to Dashlane, “With biometric authentication for Dashlane, all you need to do is touch to verify your identity and let Dashlane put your secure passwords to work across sites and apps. It’s the ultimate secure and convenient solution to online identity.” This is pretty much the same feature that Dashlane offers its iOS users, so we guess it isn’t really “new” per se.

Basically the use of your fingerprint will add an additional layer of security to your passwords. It will also prevent hackers who might have guessed your master password to your password manager to log into the app on your phone since it will now require your fingerprints as well. However there is a catch.

The catch is that it will not work for every Samsung phone out there, only the ones that come with a fingerprint sensor. This means that the feature is pretty much limited to the Galaxy S5, Galaxy S6, Galaxy Note 4, and the Galaxy Note Edge. Presumably when Android M launches with its own fingerprint system in place, more OEMs will adopt the technology and eventually Dashlane should end up supporting those as well.
