Come 29th of July, Windows 10 will be released which also means that Cortana on the desktop will finally be made available for the masses. However Microsoft has recently noted on its blog that Cortana won’t be available to everyone at the start, depending on which market you are in. The reason? Apparently Microsoft wants to tailor the Cortana experience for the country you are in.
According to Microsoft, “Cortana is customized to reflect the local language, idioms and speech patterns of each country. We craft Cortana’s local personality based on insights about each culture while at the same time staying true to the foundational principles that are universal to all markets: Cortana is positive, confident, intelligent and transparent.”
According to the Cortana Group Program Manager, Marcus Ash (see video above), “Bringing Cortana to other markets means having a deep understanding of what’s important in that particular culture…We don’t make the assumption that what is right for one country is right for all.”
