When it comes to rugged smartphones, chances are a brand you might think of is Caterpillar. If you did you might be interested to learn that the company actually has a new rugged smartphone in the form of the Caterpillar S40. The handset was announced today and it is expected to be officially released on the 1st of August across 60 countries.
As far as its specs are concerned, safe to say that the Caterpillar S40 is a rugged device as you can tell from the way it has been designed. It will be IP68 certified and will have a MIL-SPEC 810G, meaning that it will be able to withstand dust, water, and even drops. It also has the ability to track your fingers even if it is wet or when you’re wearing gloves.
It helps that the phone is also packing a Gorilla Glass 4 display. Speaking of displays, the S40 will come with a 4.7-inch 540×960 display which is admittedly not particularly high, but chances are you are interested in the phone due to its durability. It will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 processor with 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, an 8MP rear-facing camera, a 2MP front-facing camera, and a 3,000mAh battery.
Like we said this isn’t exactly flagship material compared to other high-end smartphones out there, but if you’re in need of a handset that can withstand the outdoors, then perhaps the Caterpillar S40 might be the phone for you.
