Now Bethesda did note that once the units are sold out, they will not be able to restock them and we’re sure many of you guys are asking why? Are they really trying to make it as limited as possible to create some sense of exclusivity? Does Bethesda not need our money anymore? That’s actually hardly the case, according to Bethesda’s Pete Hines in an interview with GameSpot.
According to Hines, the factories that were responsible for the product were at their limits and did not have capacity to make more, especially with the factories working on other products for other customers. “We reached a point where we’d go back to the factories and they were like, ‘guys, this is it, sorry. This is as long as we can run the lines and as many of them as we can make.’”
Hines also notes that the Pip-Boy Edition is probably the most they’ve ever produced as far as collector’s editions are concerned. “We made a s**tload of Pip-Boys, and we went back and made more, and went back and made more. I keep seeing stuff about, ‘Oh, you only did a few thousand.” No–we did a ton of these things. I think we did more of these things than we did for any collector’s edition we’ve ever done, ever.”
That being said we expect that there will be several enterprising gamers who might see the value in this and resell their copies on eBay or Craigslist for much more, so if you missed your chance, those are probably some of your best bets.
