Back in June, the folks at Beamdog appeared to be counting down towards a Baldur’s Gate announcement. Obviously a new game was in the works but it wasn’t clear as to what it would be. The good news is that the game has since been announced and it is titled Siege of Dragonspear which would basically be the expansion for Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition.
The Baldur’s Gate series officially ended with Throne of Bhaal many years ago, but instead of picking up from that story and continuing it, which we’re sure many would have been curious as to how things turned out, the folks at Beamdog decided to add a new story in the middle instead which would sort of connect the first and second Baldur’s Gate games.
It will feature a new Shaman class, new maps, new companions, a new story (obviously), and according to Beamdog’s Trent Oster, it will provide gamers with at least 25 hours worth of adventuring. Apart from the new additions to the game itself, there will also be new modes introduced like a hardcore mode for veterans, and an easier story mode for beginners.
There will be some changes made to the UI of the game, but other than that the core of the game is expected to remain exactly the same, and best of all these changes are expected to be applied across the Enhanced Editions of the game. Pricing and availability have yet to be determined, but you can check out the announcement trailer in the video above.
