If you thought that AT&T was a bit too expensive for your liking right now, then you might not be too pleased with this piece of news. According to the folks at Droid-Life, they have heard from their sources that AT&T will be raising the prices of their upgrade fees, and will also be adding an activation fee for the Next and BYOD customers.
This has not been officially announced so take it with a grain of salt for now, but it is expected to come into effect on the 1st of August, so if you haven’t upgraded yet or gotten into one of AT&T’s Next or BYOD plans, then perhaps you’ll want to do so unless you don’t mind paying the changes in price or the new activation fees.
So how much will this cost you? If their sources are right, AT&T will be increasing the upgrade fees by $5. This makes it $45 where previously it was sitting at $40. Ultimately this makes AT&T’s upgrade fee the most expensive in the country, with Verizon coming in second at $40. Ouch.
As for the new activation fee, this will apply to Next and BYOD customers. Formerly there was no activation fee required for these customers, but now it looks like they will be hit with a $15 activation fee when they sign for a new line of service. Like we said this is expected to come into effect on the 1st of August, so you’ve got until then to make your upgrades should you wish to stick to AT&T.
