According to the rumor, the new Apple TV is said to sport a new design. It will be slimmer and will obviously come packed with new hardware, such as Apple’s A8 processor, a new remote that comes with a trackpad input, increased on board storage, and an upgrade operating system that will also support Siri voice control.
The report also claims that the new Apple TV is expected to debut its own App Store and an SDK that developers can use to help populate it. As for the rumored subscription internet TV series, BuzzFeed’s sources have told them that it will not debut with the new Apple TV, and that chances are it will most likely be launched in 2016, meaning that the upcoming Apple TV announcement will be more of a hardware/software announcement as opposed to new services.
The upgraded Apple TV was originally slated for WWDC 2015 last month, however it seems that at the very last minute, Apple decided to remove it from the event with claims that it wasn’t ready to be demonstrated, although it wasn’t clear if it was due to hardware/software, or if Apple was waiting on their streaming deal to come through before demonstrating it. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but hopefully we will have more details in September.
