One easy way to bring in more subscribers for your streaming service is to offer exclusive content and that’s precisely what Apple is doing for its new music streaming service. A new report claims that the company is even producing music videos in-house for some of the biggest artists so that the videos are offered as Apple Music exclusives. It has only been a couple of weeks since Apple Music was formally launched to the public.
Pitchfork reports that Apple has already created music videos for Pharrell’s Freedom, Drake’s Energy and Eminem’s Phenomenal. All of these tracks were launched as Apple Music exclusives.
The next video project has been revealed by the official Apple Music Twitter account, it’s going to be a short-film that accompanies a two track release from M.I.A called Matahdatah Scroll 01 Broader Than a Border.
Apple is focusing quite a bit on content to promote its new music streaming service and clearly it sees this as a great way to steal market share from established rivals such as Spotify.
It’s already the exclusive online streaming home for Dr. Dre’s seminal The Chronic and even has Taylor Swift’s new album 1989 available for on demand streaming.
We’ll have to wait and see the official subscription figures though to be sure if this really is working out for Apple.
