Is the Angry Birds franchise starting to get a little long in the tooth? Perhaps, but considering that it is still Rovio’s cash cow, so to speak, we can’t blame them if they want to keep milking it. In fact after what seemed like countless iterations and variants of the Angry Birds franchise, we might finally have a true sequel to the game.
According to a tweet by IGN’s Justin Davis, it seems that Rovio is set to announce Angry Birds 2 on the 28th of July 2015. Not much is known about the sequel at this point in time, and based on what we can see in the image to the right, it looks like for the most part, Rovio will be keeping the same characters in the previous games.
Perhaps we could be treated to new characters at the unveiling, but for now it looks the same. Not much is known about the gameplay either, but presumably it will still be based on the same formula as the original Angry Birds, although we’re hoping that maybe we might see some new graphics and new mechanics that will shake things up a bit.
So far Rovio has managed to churn out a variety of Angry Birds variations, such as Angry Birds Seasons, Space, even go-karting games. There was also a spin-off based on the female Angry Bird, and we have also seen movie tie-ins, such as Angry Birds Rio. In any case if you’re a fan of the franchise, be sure to check back with us on the 28th of July for the details.
