Android M Developer Preview 3 Has Been Delayed

android m dev prevJust like how Apple has been seeding iOS 9 betas to developers and the public, Google has also been steadily releasing developer previews of their next-gen mobile operating system Android M. So far there have been two releases with the third expected for a release by the end of July.

Given that we are at the end of July, where is the release? As it turns out, it looks like the release of Android M developer preview 3 has been delayed. This has been confirmed by Googler Wojtek Kalicinski where he posted on Google+ saying, “We want this to be a near final release to test your apps on, but we need a little more time to get it out to you.”

Based on his words, it sounds as if Google is getting pretty close to a final version of Android M. The operating system is expected to see a release in the fall and given that last year Android Lollipop was released in November, we expect that Google will probably be keeping to that timeframe as well, or perhaps even earlier which would be good news for everyone.

In any case we suppose we can forgive the delay. After all there is no point in Google releasing a developer preview if it were buggy or if there weren’t enough new features to be trialed and tested, right? Either way we will keep our eyes peeled for more information regarding its release, so check back with us at a later date for the details.
