This was confirmed by Amazon Prime’s vice president Greg Greeley who said, “Going into this, we weren’t sure whether Prime Day would be a one-time thing or if it would become an annual event. After yesterday’s results, we’ll definitely be doing this again.” The results apparently include hundreds of thousands of new Prime signups, orders of 398 items per second, and saw sales rise 18% higher than Black Friday 2014.
That being said, while there were plenty of items on sale, there were many customers who weren’t particularly thrilled about what Amazon considered to be good deals, taking to Twitter to vent their frustrations. This included items like 55-gallons of lubricant and a stack of CD-Rs, which like we said previously seems a bit silly since presumably many would have since upgraded to DVDs or even Blu-ray by now.
In any case this is Amazon’s first big blowout so hopefully they will be able to learn from this experience and customer feedback and make 2016’s Prime Day an even bigger success.
