Amazon Home Services is a relatively new section on Amazon that was launched earlier this year, it allows people in supported cities to search for professional help. Whether they need a plumber or carpenter Amazon wants them to find one through its website. The company is now expanding Home Services to more cities across the United States, it’s going to be available in 15 new metropolitan areas. Amazon says that its aim with Home Services is to make purchasing a service “as easy as buying a product.”
The service is now live in 15 new metropolitan areas including but not limited to Atlanta, Chicago, Boston and Washington D.C. The full map posted above shows all of the cities where this section pops up on Amazon’s website.
Customers can browse through set services such as changing a shower or they can put up requests for custom jobs such as central air installation, home entertainment setup or painting a room that service providers can then contact them for.
Amazon isn’t the only company that’s playing in this market, there have been startups like Homejoy that offered similar services, but that particular startup went bust with 20 of its employees being hired by Google, raising speculation that Google is also planning a move in this market.
