It looks like when it comes to the latest round of flagship devices from Sony, the Sony Xperia Z3+ as well as the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet will no longer offer support for the PlayStation 3 DualShock 3 controller. This would mean that the solitary controller that both of these flagship devices from Sony support would be the DualShock 4, and needless to say, you can tell from the name itself that this happens to be the controller which arrived alongside the current generation Sony console, that is, the PlayStation 4.
Fret not, though, as you can still rest assured that the more aged devices from the Xperia stable such as the Sony Xperia Z3 as well as the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact will still offer support when it comes to the DualShock 3 controller. Do take note, however, that the Sony Xperia Z3+ and the Xperia Z4 Tablet happen to be the only two Sony devices that run on Android 5.1 Lollipop at the moment, so there are some folks out there who are starting to fret that down the road, when Sony introduces updates to their older devices to make the jump to Android 5.1 Lollipop, this would also mean that support for the DualShock 3 controller will cease.
Even if that isn’t the case, Sony might still drop support for the DualShock 3 controllers in the future with a minor update, not necessarily an operating system upgrade. Do you think that this is Sony’s way to make their Xperia users upgrade to the latest controller?
