According to a report from Defense Tech (via Engadget), it seems that the USAF managed to pinpoint the location of a ISIS base thanks to a selfie that was supposedly making its rounds on an open forum. “The guys that were working down out of Hurlburt, they’re combing through social media and they see some moron standing at this command. And in some social media, open forum, bragging about the command and control capabilities for Daesh, ISIL,” according to Air Force Gen. Hawk Carlisle.
He then adds, “And these guys go: ‘We got an in.’ So they do some work, long story short, about 22 hours later through that very building, three JDAMs [Joint Direct Attack Munitions] take that entire building out.” Unsurprisingly additional details about the attack along with the location of the former base is being kept under wraps by the USAF, but like we said, there is a time and place for everything and we suppose this was not one of them.
