Samsung today announced the launch of what it claims to be the world’s thinnest 4TB external hard drives, the 4TB M3 Portable and the P3 Portable are the first USB powered single drive solutions housed in 2.5″ cases. Both drives measure just 0.78 inches thin and weigh in at only 8.3 ounces. Previously such storage capacity was only available in desktop or hefty multi-drive internal solutions, Samsung has moved into the market first with its single drive 4TB portable HDD solutions.
Since it’s based on a single drive solution the M3 Portable and P3 Portable can be powered through a USB connection while it’s housed in a case which is only 1/10 of an inch thicker than the company’s existing 2TB external hard drive.
Samsung has thus presented notebook computer owners with compelling options to externally increase storage, and with demand for storage ever so gradually increasing, users would no doubt appreciate greater amounts of storage in portable, lightweight and thin enclosures.
Both M3 Portable and P3 Portable 4TB external hard drives from Samsung operate at USB 3.0 speeds without needing any external power supply. Samsung is going to release these external hard drives later this month through authorized distributors. The company is yet to reveal pricing for these drives.
