It was rumored last week that Razer might be looking into a possible acquisition of Ouya, the micro-console maker that has been struggling to get off the ground. Ouya has had a hard time getting off the ground even as casual Android gaming on the big screen continues to emerge as a trend, yet it’s fortunes didn’t change even when talk of a $10 million investment from China started. It has been confirmed today that Razer has indeed bought Ouya.
M&A behemoth Mesa Global has confirmed today that Ouya has been acquired by Razer, it didn’t reveal any terms of the deal so it’s unclear precisely how much the company paid.
Mesa performed its duties as the exclusive financial advisor to Ouya in its sale to Razer, merely confirming that the deal was signed in June 2015. Nothing more has been revealed, and it’s unlikely that anything else will be publicly revealed at least from Mesa’s end.
It remains to be seen though what Razer intends to do with Ouya now that it has purchased the company. Previous reports suggested that Ouya would continue to function under its own brand even while being under the ownership of Razer.
Razer has already made a move into the world of Android gaming with the Forge TV, a mini-console that runs Android TV and allows users to play games as well as access a plethora of entertainment options.
