When it comes to compact cameras that are aimed more towards the prosumer than the regular crowd, Canon’s PowerShot series has always been somewhat reliable. The company has spawned many PowerShot cameras in the past and earlier this year, we heard rumors that they were planning a new PowerShot in the form of the PowerShot G3 X.
Thanks to the folks at Digicame-info (via PhotoRumors), it seems that they have managed to get their hands on photos and specs of the upcoming device which is said to be close to being announced. Whether or not that is true remains to be seen as we have been hearing about it for a while, but if the photos are any indication we might not have to wait much longer.
In terms of specs, the Canon PowerShot G3 X appears to be targeting photographers who love their zoom lenses. The camera will come with a 25x zoom lens which is a 24-600mm equivalent. It will also feature a f/2.8-5.6 aperture which is not too bad considering its focal length, but photographers who would prefer a wider aperture for low-light photography should look elsewhere.
It will feature a 1-inch CMOS sensor and will be both water and dust proof. There will also be built-in WiFi and NFC connectivity to allow photographers to transfer photos and videos wirelessly. The camera will also come with a tiltable LCD display, Full HD video capturing capabilities, and creative modes. However until Canon actually makes it official, do take it with a grain of salt for now.
