As the name suggests, Buyable Pins are basically Rich Pins that have the added functionality of allowing the user to make the purchase directly within Pinterest itself and have it delivered to their home, thus cutting down the extra steps one might have had to take with the older method from before.
The feature is expected to launch later this month with Shopify and Demandware as Pinterest’s partners at launch. The company will also be working with Stripe to handle payments and it seems that there will be no added fees for buyers or merchants who choose to make the purchase through its platform, which is good news.
According to the company’s CEO Ben Silbermann, “Right now since everyone uses their phone, but it’s still a pain to buy things. There are fiddly menus, you have to squint to see the images.” We first heard about Pinterest’s plans for Buyable Pins back in February where it was suggested that the feature could be launched later this year, and it looks like the rumors were right on the money.
