From the efforts we’ve seen from companies, it certainly looks like virtual reality could be the future of gaming, or at least a popular option. So much so that it looks like we have a new player in the virtual reality headset scene from the likes of Starbreeze, who for those unfamiliar is a gaming studio responsible for titles such as Payday.
Well it looks like the studio wants in on the virtual reality market and has recently announced at a pre-E3 event that they will be launching their own virtual reality headset called Project StarVR. As you can see from the design of the headset alone, it looks nothing like most of the VR headsets we’ve seen in the market.
According to the company, the headset will feature a 210-degree field of view and a 5120×1440 resolution. This would make it the highest resolution available at the moment for VR headsets, with the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive sporting 2160×1200 resolutions at the moment. Unfortunately there is no word on when the company will launch the StarVR headset, but safe to say that they will be facing stiff competition.
As we mentioned there are already players such as Oculus and HTC who has partnered with Steam for the HTC Vive. Sony’s Project Morpheus is also in the works and pegged for a possible 2016 release, and let’s not forget devices like the Samsung Gear VR which is more accessible due to its use of a smartphone as its display.
