Last month we reported that OS X users were experiencing issues with their WiFi. This is not a new problem but one that has been around for a while. The good news is that the fix is finally here as Apple has officially released the latest update to their OS X system. This will bring your OS X version to 10.10.4.
With the update, Apple has decided to remove the discoveryd tool which was used in previous versions of OS X 10. It was discovered earlier that discoveryd was the main cause behind OS X users experiencing WiFi issues on their computers, so by removing it and replacing it with the mDNSresponder tool, it should fix it once and for all, we hope.
Prior to this, Apple had used mDNSresponder but for some reason or the other, newer versions of OS X saw Apple switch to discoveryd. Perhaps Apple had thought that the tool was more efficient/better than mDNSresponder, but ultimately it led to a lot of WiFi issues for their users, so we guess it’s back to the old ways for now.
Apart from the removal of discoveryd, the update will introduce a host of improvements and bug fixes, like allowing external displays to function properly, Photos crashing after importing Leica’s DNG files, improved the reliability of syncing photos to the iCloud Photo Library, and more. If you haven’t already been prompted, you can manually check for updates and install them.
