Many recent Android smartphones have support for voice commands and if you have the featured enabled inside the Google Search app, you can say “OK Google” to bring up the feature and ask it all sorts of questions. It can even aid with some simple tasks which is why the feature is very useful particularly in situations when you can’t physically operate the phone. Currently though OK Google voice commands require you to be connected to the internet but it appears that this might change soon.
New code has been discovered in the latest version of the Google Search application for Android which hints that OK Google offline voice commands might soon go live for the platform.
Obviously you’ll still require an internet connection to get answers from Google Search but offline the feature would presumably aid in things like turning on Wi-Fi, playing music, making a phone call or sending a text message.
The app also contains some code which indicates that other features might soon be linked up with voice commands, such as turning up the screen brightness and the device’s volumes.
These are simple features that don’t require much interaction on the user’s part but still it would be very useful if all of them could easily be controlled using voice commands.
It’s unclear at this point in time when Google intends to formally make offline voice commands available to Android users.
