Office For Android Phones Now Available

Earlier this year, Microsoft released Office for Android but unfortunately it was only limited to Android tablets (even then tablets had to meet certain hardware requirements). So what about users on Android phones who would much rather have the app on their phones than tablets? Well the good news is that it is finally here.

According to a post on the Microsoft blog written by Kirk Koenigsbauer, “Today I’m pleased to announce the general availability of the new Word, Excel and PowerPoint apps for Android phone. These join our previously released Office apps for Android tablets to complete the Office experience for the millions of Android users around the world.”

Prior to this, Office for Android was available on smartphones except that it only existed in preview form, which in some way is like a beta. Some users who don’t mind taking beta apps for a spin should have no issue using it, but there are some who would much rather wait for the final polished product, and if you fall into that latter camp than this release is for you.

The apps themselves are free, naturally, but for businesses who want to use the app they will require an Office 365 subscription in order to edit documents stored on OneDrive for Business or Dropbox for Business.
