Netflix may be a leader in the online streaming arena but the service is only available in less than 50 countries right now. The company is working towards international expansion but obviously there are some hurdles that it first has to overcome before its streaming service can be launched in new markets. Southern Europe is the next frontier for this service and Netflix has confirmed today three new countries in which it’s sevice is going to be launched later this year.
The company has confirmed that Netflix is going to be launched in Spain, Italy and Portugal this year. All three countries will receive the streaming service in October 2015.
Netflix will then be available in around 50 countries, 13 of which are European nations, so Spain, Italy and Portugal are finally going to join their fellow EU states as Netflix-supported markets.
This is just the start of Netflix’s aggressive expansion plan, it aims to expand its service to 200 countries by the end of 2016. That’s more or less going to mean that Netflix will have a truly global presence.
Netflix has not yet confirmed what the subscription prices will be for these countries, the charges can often differ based on market. It’s likely that prices for Spain, Italy and Portugal will be similar to what subscribers in other European states have to pay, for example people in France, Austria, Germany and Luxembourg pay €7.99 per month to access Netflix.
