Granted that the LG G Watch R was only launched last year, but it has since been replaced by LG’s other wearables such as the LG Watch Urbane that was announced earlier this year. That being said does that means that the LG G Watch R could soon be discontinued? Well it certainly looks that way.
According to reports, it has been noted that the LG G Watch R has been removed from the Google Play Store. Shoppers in the US and Japan who try to navigate to the product page are greeted by a message that reads, “unavailable in your country”. It is unclear as to what this truly means – could it simply be that they are out of stock? Or has the watch been discontinued?
That being said it should be pointed out that the LG G Watch R is still available via other retailers such as Amazon, but the removal from Google Play could be an indication that Google/LG wants to focus on newer wearables like the LG Watch Urbane. If you’re worried about support of the device, it seems that LG still has your back.
The company announced last month that WiFi compatibility would be coming to the watch later this year, although recently it seems that one developer managed to hack the WiFi drivers from the LG Watch Urbane onto the LG G Watch R, giving it unofficial WiFi support for now.
