That being said it looks like that was only the beginning as Jawbone has recently filed for yet another lawsuit against Fitbit. This time the lawsuit claims that Fitbit had infringed upon Jawbone’s patents and that they are now seeking for an injunction against Fitbit’s products from being sold or imported into the US.
Jawbone alleges that Fitbit had infringed upon a patent for “a wellness application using data from a data-capable band.” This is rather vague and the company did not point out any specific features of Fitbit that might fit this description. The company goes as far as saying that they plan to take up the issue with the International Trade Commission as well.
In a statement released by Fitbit with regards to the lawsuit, “Fitbit has no need to take information from Jawbone or any other company. We are unaware of any confidential or proprietary information of Jawbone in our possession and we intend to vigorously defend against these allegations.” The lawsuit comes around the time Fitbit announced their plans for an IPO. Recently it was also revealed that Fitbit is the current leader when it comes to fitness wearables shipments.
