There have been many reports recently suggesting that Microsoft is going to release two high-end Lumia smartphones later this year. It has been a while since the company launched a high-end Windows Phone device, it has stuck with mid-range and low-end devices for the past few months now so it’s about time that a flagship arrived. Fingerprint scanners might be fashionable these days but rumor has it that the Microsoft Lumia 940XL will instead offer an iris scanner.
Putting an iris scanner inside a smartphone is not really a new idea. Recently Vivo released a new smartphone called the X5 Pro which has an iris scanner, and even the $129 TCL 3S has one so certainly it’s not something that Microsoft can’t do.
The two high-end devices being developed by Microsoft are believed to have the Lumia Talkman and Lumia Cityman internal codenames. Specifications of these handsets have not yet been confirmed, even by unofficial sources.
Infamous Twitter leaker @evleaks sent out a tweet in which he claims that the Lumia Cityman, believed to be the Lumia 940XL, is going to skip the fingerprint scanner and go right to the iris scanner.
He doesn’t say the same about Lumia Talkman, or the Lumia 940, which makes it possible that this particular model may not have the iris scanner and might offer the fingerprint scanner instead.
There’s no word as yet from Microsoft about the launch of its next flagship Lumia devices which will obviously come running Windows 10 Mobile.
