If code found buried within the first beta of iOS 9 holds any clues then it’s possible for Apple to introduce radically improved front cameras in the next-generation iPhone. The iOS 9 code points at support in FaceTime cameras for features like video capture in full 1080p HD which will be a significant improvement over the existing 720p video capture on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
It may also be possible for users to capture video at 240 frames per second in 720p on the next-generation iPhones, hints related to this feature can be found within the code of iOS 9 beta 1.
Also mentioned are support for a front-facing flash which is something that Apple has never done before on the iPhone, as well as the option to take panoramic selfies using the FaceTime camera.
Many of these features have almost always be limited to the rear facing camera on iPhones, but Apple is known to make significant improvements to its cameras with each new generation of its smartphone, so one can’t really count out the possibility that it might not do all this with FaceTime camera in the next-generation iPhone.
As tradition dictates, Apple is going to unveil its next-generation iPhone this fall, so we have quite a bit of waiting to do before we find out for sure if all this is really going to happen.
