There are keyboard accessories for the iPad. For the most part this allows users to type out documents on their tablets as well as control certain aspects, like volume adjustment and going to home screen. Basically nothing particularly fancy. However with iOS 9, Apple is changing things up and will be bringing hardware keyboard shortcuts to the tablet.
What this means is that if you plan to use a keyboard with your iPad, you can rest assured that there will be more keyboard shortcuts for you than before. Apple demonstrated this during WWDC 2015 earlier this week with their Pages app where users could use shortcuts to add comments to a document, check the word count, or find a keyword.
However like we said earlier, there are keyboards that already offer up shortcuts, but it should be noted that these shortcuts have already been hardwired into the keyboards themselves, meaning that they are limited in their functionality and should future features be added, they won’t be able to access them.
With the added support of hardware keyboard shortcuts, it seems that iOS 9 has managed to bring the iPad one step closer to being on par with the MacBook as a productivity tool, but is this something you will consider in the future?
