Earlier last month we brought news that there was an accessory in the works called the Hub+. This is an accessory designed for USB Type-C computers like Apple’s new 12-inch Retina MacBook where there is only one port. The idea is to offer up a hub that connects to the USB Type-C port to allow more accessories to be connected with the laptop.
It is an admittedly simple device but as it turns out, this is something many users can get behind on. In fact the Kickstarter project has been a huge success as it has managed to raise close to $700,000 at this time of writing. Given that it has 7 days left to go, we wouldn’t be surprised if it managed to hit the $700,000 mark by then.
So what makes the Hub+ so appealing? Well for starters it offers a solution to a problem the new MacBook owners are facing, which is more ports. It will come with 3 USB-A ports, two USB-C ports, a mini display port, a built-in SDXC card reader, and here’s the coolest feature of the Hub+ – it can even double up as an external battery for your smartphone!
Granted the battery built into the Hub+ is only 400mAh, but for such a slim device we reckon it would come in handy for emergencies where you need just a little bit more juice to finish up your email, message, or make a quick phone call to someone. If the Hub+ sounds like your kind of accessory, there’s still time left to back the project so head on over to its Kickstarter page for the details.
