So much so that there have been rumors that Xiaomi could be thinking of buying them out. However it looks like that is not the case. HTC’s chairwoman Cher Wang recently addressed those rumors and claimed that they were not true. This followed the drop in HTC’s shares which fell by 5.79% to NT$92.80. In fact one analyst even went as far as calling the company’s stock as being “technically fragile”.
Wang has since come forward to apologize for the company’s poor performance at the annual general meeting that was held last Tuesday. It was also where she denied that Xiaomi would be buying the company out, although that could make sense as acquiring HTC, their patents, and their technology could allow Xiaomi to surpass both Apple and Samsung.
It was also at that meeting that Wang revealed that HTC had plans for a new series of smartphones later this year which some have speculated could be a Windows Phone handset. In the meantime the company has launched their latest handset in the form of the HTC One ME in China, a phone which packs MediaTek’s Helio X10 processor.
