Despite the fact that it has been over a month since Google released Android 5.1 Lollipop the update has not yet been released for HTC’s flagship smartphone. OEMs have not been quick to jump on this update, even Samsung is only just starting to roll out the update to its high-end smartphones. HTC users who have been waiting for this update can now get their hands on the HTC One M9 Android 5.1 leaked ROM, they will obviously require a One M9 in order to take this ROM for a spin.
Popular HTC-related developer LlabtooFer has released a new HTC One M9 ROM that’s based on the 2.7.401.1 firmware for this handset, it provides us with our first glimpse at what to expect from the official update for the One M9.
There aren’t that many major changes in Android 5.1 once you’re already on the Lollipop update, but users will notice some user interface tweaks as well as features such as multi-user support, Do Not Disturb mode and new animations in Sense 7.
Given that this is an unofficial ROM, HTC One M9 owners are required to have unlocked bootloaders as well as a custom recovery installed before they can flash this ROM. LlabtooFeR points out that this ROM is only for HTC One M9 units with S-OFF.
HTC has not yet revealed when the official update is going to be out for the HTC One M9 but for now this ROM is available for those who are willing to go through with the flash procedure.
