Back in November last year, it was revealed that Blizzard was working on some Diablo-themed maps for their MOBA, Heroes of the Storm. Well the good news is that if a Diablo-themed map was something you were looking forward to, wonder no more because Blizzard has officially announced the game’s first expansion in the form of Eternal Conflict.
We suppose this isn’t technically an expansion per se, but rather an update that will introduce a new Diablo-themed map to the game, along with a new hero character in the form of The Butcher which was an iconic Diablo villain and was revived in Diablo 3. He will have his own unique set of skills, such as Butcher’s Brand, Furnace Blast, and a hero trait called Fresh Meat.
The map is the same map that we talked about last time and is based on the High Heavens setting where half the map will go “good” and the other “evil”.There will be new mechanics, of course. The map will see two immortal beings that will occasionally fight each other and the immortal that wins will help their team push forward, so it is in your team’s best interest to band together to make sure that your immortal survives.
Heroes of the Storm was released just last week and is Blizzard’s attempt at their own MOBA. So far reviews of the game have been mostly positive, citing Blizzard’s polished gameplay and recognizable heroes as being some of its strong traits. There is some criticism about the lack of in-game items but this was intentional as Blizzard is trying to simplify the process, whether or not this sits well with players in the long-run remains to be seen.
