MOBAs are probably one of the more competitive eSports genres at the moment, and this has been made especially so thanks to games like DotA 2 and League of Legends where there are ban systems that allows players to ban certain heroes from being selected. This disrupts certain teamplay strategies while making it challenging for players as it will rely less on the hero and more on their skills and teamwork.
This is also something that gamers have been asking Blizzard for with Heroes of the Storm and it looks like Blizzard is finally paying attention. When asked if such a ban system could be put in place, Blizzard’s Dustin Browder replied by saying, “Will experiment with some ban ideas in some esport events this summer. Will explore which Ban system works best for us.” That being said Browder’s statement is not a guarantee that such a feature will be introduced, but at the very least it shows Blizzard is considering the idea.
It should be noted that Heroes of the Storm is a relatively newcomer to the MOBA scene and we know that Blizzard has plans to make it more competitive, hopefully where it can rival its competitors in League of Legends and DotA 2 in being one of the more popular titles in eSports around at the moment. Of course whether or not they will be successful remains to be seen, but so far reviews of the game have been largely positive, mostly thanks to Blizzard’s ability to leverage popular heroes and characters from its franchises.
