HBO has decided to stream the premiere episodes of its new comedy shows Ballers and The Brink on Facebook, starting today the first episode of both series will be available for free streaming through Facebook for a limited time. The series premiered on HBO back on Sunday so those who subscribe to the cable network might have already watched it, or they can watch it on-demand from the HBO library if they haven’t. Those who don’t have access to HBO can watch them for free on Facebook.
Facebook has an exclusive streaming deal with HBO for these episodes so they won’t really be available anywhere else, unless you use HBO GO or the cable network’s recently announced internet TV streaming service called HBO Now.
The premiere episode of Ballers can be found on star and executive producer Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s own Facebook page which counts over 50 million follows, whereas The Brink is hosted on its series page which doesn’t quite have the fan following of The Rock.
This isn’t the first time that a content producer has decided to use Facebook to promote a series, just recently we saw Amazon do the same with a couple of its shows, it’s a strategy that appears to make sense and HBO is going with it until it finds something even better.
