It has been common knowledge for a while now that a new Guitar Hero title is being developed, today Activision formally confirmed the Guitar Hero release date for PS4 and Xbox One. Barring any unexpected delays, Activision is going to release the title later this year. Interestingly it has chosen the very same month for release in which Rock Band 4 is going to arrive. Rock Band 4’s release time frame has already been confirmed.
Things are a bit different with Guitar Hero Live as it doesn’t feature five on-screen highways like previous titles, it only has three. It can present players with bit of a learning curve but it’s not something that’s too drastic.
Activision hasn’t gone into much detail about the business model for this title, though according to reports the title is going to have two currencies, one that involves real money and others that require players to go through the grind in order to unlock themes, guitar powers and premium 24-hour music video channels for Guitar Hero TV.
Players will be able to play almost all of the songs provided by the title without having to pay any money but at times they might have to submit to the grind to gain access. Apparently Activision could provide a limited time pass which will unlock all content in the game for a set time period.
Activision has confirmed that Guitar Hero Live is going to be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii U on October 20th. It will also be released for select mobile devices but Activision hasn’t revealed which mobile devices the title will support. Guitar Hero Live will cost $99.99 which includes a copy of the game and the guitar.
