At Google I/O a few weeks back the company revealed a virtual reality video capture rig that it has created with GoPro, the rig is called Jump and it basically features more than a dozen GoPro cameras mounted in a circle for 360-degree video capture. The company is allowing people to sign up if they want to test out this rig so it has put up a document where interested people can explain what they’ll do with the rig and also provide some information about themselves.
The company will obviously not provide the rig to everybody who sends in a request, the privilege will only be provided to “select creators” who will be able to use the Jump rig provided by the company over the summer.
The signup process isn’t that complicated, it’s a two page document that requires some personal information and asks questions about what the user would want to do with the rig if they’re provided one.
Google wants people to come up with interesting uses as it says that “awesome” answers to these questions will be ranked higher, it would help to go into detail of what you plan on doing with the rig should Google provide you with one.
Filmmakers, journalists and producers are welcomed, but there’s a category for “other” as well, just ensure that your answers to the questions are compelling enough for the company to take a chance on you.
