It was reported recently that Google might officially announce the launch of its prepaid cards in India and now an official announcement from the company has come through on its country-specific blog. Starting today users in India can opt for Google Play prepaid cards to purchase digital content from the Google Play Store. The prepaid cards option is likely to get good traction in this emerging market where people still might have apprehensions about submitting their card details to an online company, but also want to spend money on apps, games, movies and other content.
Purchasing content with prepaid cards is very simple, the cards are available in INR 500, INR 1000 and INR 1500 denominations and the same will be credited to the user’s account. The amount can then be used to purchase digital content from the Google Play Store.
The prepaid cards will be available over the coming weeks from select Vijay Sales and Spice Hotspot outlets in Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Kolkata & Jaipur.
Customers merely need to ask the cashier at the register for a Google Play prepaid card and pay for it using any payment method that’s accepted by the retailer, be it cash or card.
The amount from the prepaid cards can not only be used for purchasing content directly from Google’s content stores, it can also be put towards in-app purchases, which many apps and particularly games these days offer.
