Google Camera Updated, Now Faster & More Stable

When it comes to camera performance, it really isn’t a secret that Google’s Nexus lineup of phones aren’t that good. While the photos captured by the Nexus handsets are passable, they’re definitely not on the level of Apple’s iPhones or Samsung’s Galaxy S-series, but hopefully they will be more functional after the latest update.

Google has recently updated the Google Camera app on the Google Play Store which will basically target Nexus users. According to the changelog, the camera app has been updated with performance improvements. For the Nexus 6 running on Android 5.1 Lollipop, it has been updated to capture photos faster in non-HDR+ mode.

However for those who prefer shooting in HDR+, there have been some improvements made in that area as well which will also cover the Nexus 5. As for the Nexus 4, the app has been updated to introduce improved stability overall, thus leading to less app crashes and fewer viewfinder errors, but this will require users to run Android 5.0 or later.

All of these updates requires the user to have at least  Android 5.0 to take advantage of it, so if your phone is still running KitKat, perhaps it’s time for an upgrade. Google has also made updates to the Lens Blur feature to improve its quality as well as to the user interface to show new capture and focus indicators. The update is available for download via the Google Play Store so if you haven’t done so already, perhaps this is an update you’ll want to check out.
